Gurs Sahota - Science Tutor

Gurs Sahota

Science Tutor

Gurs Sahota has an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation & Management from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University. He has been a science tutor with us since 2008, helping students from Primary to Undergraduate level.

Tutor Experience

Gurs has a great deal of experience tutoring for 7 Plus, 11 Plus and 13 Plus Common Entrance examinations. He is also an experienced GCSE Science tutor, offering private tuition in all three Sciences. Each academic year, Gurs provides A level Chemistry tuition and A level Biology tuition to a range of students. Gurs is also an experienced IB tutor, providing IB Biology tuition. He has tutored students for successful entry to some of the UK’s leading day and boarding schools such as Eton College, Harrow, Westminster, St Pauls, Stowe and Charterhouse amongst others.

When it comes to GCSE science, Gurs has a comprehensive understanding of all exam boards for GCSE and iGCSE courses. He offers bespoke GCSE Science tuition, tailored to a student’s individual needs. This requires an understanding not only of a student’s ability, but also their character.

Gurs makes lessons enjoyable and treats students as adult learners, so subjects aren’t hated or feared. He encourages students reach those all important ‘ah-ha!’ moments themselves. In the run up to exams, focus shifts to revision processes and techniques and then exam success.

At A level and IB Diploma Gurs’s lesson plans address gaps and stalling points in a student’s learning, using their own strengths to encourage a passion for their subject (wherever possible!) and nurture future learning.

Tutor Ethos

Gurs Sahota believes the key to successful science tuition is setting realistic goals. With all his students the aim is not only to ensure a pass or a specific grade but to teach the techniques that help them to learn, revise, write, analyse and criticise.

Testimonial

Gurs has been tutoring me in Biology (both for GCSE and A level) for the last three years. He has helped me improve my understanding in these subjects tremendously. Gurs enabled me to obtain exam results I never got before. I could not have achieved these without his help.

After working with him on a weekly basis for 2 months I finished Unit 4 (of A2 OCR Biology) with 95% and Unit 5 with 100%. Gurs was fantastic at teaching me how to handle “the suggest” questions, which require candidates to apply their own problem solving skills and Biology knowledge.”
