Anand Verma started tutoring Economics in 2003 after studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University. He taught in schools for 18 years and was the Head of Economics for both the A level and IB Diploma courses. Anand returned to full-time Economics tutoring as he prefers tailoring his lessons to the individual needs of the student.
At A level Anand has taught the Edexcel, AQA, OCR and WJEC Economics syllabuses. He has also been an examiner for Edexcel and written practice Edexcel exam papers. He was the Head of Economics at Oak House School, in Barcelona for 2 years, where I taught the whole IB course.
Anand’s lessons are very interactive and he always pushes his students to raise the standard of their answers. However, he also believes that it is very important that students have the confidence to take a risk when giving an answer, and that it is good to make mistakes because we learn from them.
He delves deeply into the technical aspects of Economics and the mark scheme that students are working with. He sees great improvements from students who stick with and buy into the methods that he teaches them. This is what he finds being an Economics tutor so rewarding.
Anand often finds his students have a good understanding of their subject but they struggle to convert their understanding into an equally good answer on paper. Anand helps Economics students to edit and structure their answers as they write them. He also encourages students to think slowly and take their time when reading a question as well as when thinking how to answer a question. His teaching methods improve students’ understanding of questions, planning of answers and their development of arguments.
Anand Verma loves teaching Economics because he is passionate about explaining and sharing ideas. He enjoys showing his students how to explain their ideas to others.
