Experience of the lockdown period will vary for children. For some, it’s been a wonderful opportunity to hit the brakes and reset. But for others, it’s been a period of fear and uncertainty, fraught with feelings of stress and worry.
An independent report from Young Minds – which surveyed 2036 young people with a history of mental health needs – found that 80% reported that the pandemic had made their mental health worse (41% saying it had made their mental health “much worse”). This was due to increased feelings of anxiety, isolation, a loss of coping mechanisms or a loss of motivation.
For these students, and countless others like them, the thought of going back to school has been a very scary prospect.
