Katie Lane

English as an Additional Language Tutor

Katie Lane has been a private tutor for over ten years, specialising in English as an Additional Language.

Tutor Experience

She gained her CELTA qualification in Spain and during that time provided tuition in Spain and London with people from all over the world.

Katie is now based full-time in London. She is a private tutor to people who are new to the UK and require an overall improvement in their language to help them with day-to-day things. Katie also provides private tuition for those preparing for the Life In The UK test.

After completing her CELTA Katie gained another qualification in Business English. She worked with Blue Chip companies such as Ernst & Young, Nissan, tech start-ups, law firms as well as hedge funds.

She has helped English as an Additional Language students with writing formal emails and presentations, staff appraisals and client pitches.

In 2011 Katie Lane expanded her skills set by training in phonetics and elocution. She learnt the physiology of the voice and how sounds are formed. It helped identify specific areas of difficulty for speakers from different regions of the world.

Online Tutoring

Supporting a child with English as an Additional Language is a key part of what Katie does. She has provided private tuition to many 16 to 18 year olds in person, and via online tutoring.

In particular, they focus on written work and learning vocabulary in order to increase fluency. In addition to this, they practice techniques required to answer the listening and reading parts of the exam. Katie has found that online tuition is greatly beneficial to those wanting to get a head start before moving to the UK. Online tutoring provides much needed flexibility for families who are in the process of relocating.

Testimonial

“I really enjoy Katie’s online tuition. The classes are always interesting and we talk about many different topics. She is very strict about grammar!”
